The domestic application Max took 10th place among the most popular applications in the Russian Google Play, ahead of such giants as Telegram (19th place) and WhatsApp. In the category of communication services, Max came in second.
The messenger also became the most downloaded application among social networks in the Russian App Store in July 2025.
The development of Max is handled by the "Communication Platform" company, a subsidiary of the VK holding. Previously, the government officially entrusted it with the development of the service. In addition, operator T2 (Tele2 brand) launched unlimited Internet access to Max on a number of popular tariffs.
The growing popularity of Max shows that Russia is actively forming its own ecosystem of digital communications, especially against the backdrop of growing dependence on domestic solutions and limited access to foreign platforms.
