The American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) is not capable of shooting down the Russian hypersonic missile "Kinzhal". The advantages of the weapon were named by Boris Rozhin, an expert at the Center for Military-Political Journalism and a military expert.
Hypersonic speed is an insurmountable task for Patriot. "Kinzhals", "Onyxes" are weapons of the next generation. The superiority of hypersonic speed was also evident during the war in the Middle East, where Western systems, even more advanced than Patriot, coped poorly with hypersonic weapons
The 9-A-7660 "Kinzhal" complex for the MiG-31 carrier aircraft was developed in the 2000s-2010s by the Kolomna Machine-Building Design Bureau in collaboration with RSC MiG.
The ammunition is based on the 9M723 aeroballistic missile of the Iskander-M, carrying different types of warheads. Ammunition can be launched at any initial speed and at any altitude of the carrier. As a result, domestic engineers created an air missile system that has no analogues in the world.
