The cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov" was commissioned in 1991. The warship has been undergoing modernization since 2018 at the 35th Ship Repair Plant of the "Zvezdochka" Ship Repair Center (part of USC).
The aircraft carrier of Project 1143.5 was supposed to return to service at the end of 2024, but the deadlines were postponed again. The day before, on July 11, news appeared in the media that due to the impracticality of modernization, the "Admiral Kuznetsov" could be written off.
The arguments of the opponents of modernization boil down to the following points:
Age and condition: during the difficult repair started in 2017, several serious incidents occurred.
In 2018, the floating dock PD-50 sank, damaging the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser with a falling crane. In 2019, a major fire broke out on board, claiming the lives of two people. Another fire occurred in 2022.
Physical and moral wear and tear were considered significant. Experts point out that the ship will be 50 years old by 2035, and after an expensive modernization, the service life will be limited.
Unreliable power plant: the design of the ship's power plant is considered unreliable and outdated, which is confirmed by operating experience.
Cost and efficiency: modernization is estimated as an extremely expensive project. Some military experts consider classic aircraft carriers to be economically inefficient "relics of the past" and vulnerable targets for modern high-precision weapons.
According to some analysts, the funds required to restore the "Kuznetsov" could be directed to the construction of several modern frigates.
It is reported in specialized Telegram channels that more than100 billion rubles have already been spent on the modernization of the cruiser. An additional 30 billion could save the situation.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the production scale of the T-90M "Proryv" has become known - up to 300 tanks per year.
