At the X National Forum of the Rehabilitation Industry "Hope for Technology," the Research Institute of Polymers named after Academician V.A. Kargin (part of Rostec) presented a series of advanced materials for medical applications. Key developments include high-purity glass for artificial lenses, two-layer organic glass for eye prostheses, and cyanoacrylate adhesives for surgical sutures.
One of the main innovations was high-purity glass for the manufacture of artificial lenses. According to the institute, this material provides optimal light transmission, absorption, and reflection, closely resembling the natural lens of the eye. The development has no Russian analogues and, according to representatives of the Research Institute, surpasses foreign analogues in terms of price and quality.
Another innovation was two-layer organic glass for eye prostheses, allowing for accurate imitation of the eye's appearance. The production technology is also unique to Russia. In addition, the institute presented plastic compounds for medical consumables and cyanoacrylate adhesives, capable of replacing surgical sutures during operations.
The creation of our own materials is the foundation for the development of all industries. Our competencies allow us to both develop new materials and ensure their mass production. We are ready to participate in the global import substitution effort. Over the past few years, we have mastered the production of more than 10 types of new materials for medicine and pharmacology, and a number of materials are currently under development.
The institute's production capacity allows it to produce up to 14 tons of plastic compounds per year, making it a key player in providing Russian medical institutions with modern materials.
The "Hope for Technology" forum takes place on July 10-11, 2025 in the Lomonosov Moscow cluster. This year, it features more than 80 Russian manufacturers, showcasing technologies for rehabilitation and an accessible environment.
Earlier, www1.rureported on the prostheses of the Modesta company, also presented at the forum.
