Мошенники придумали новую схему кражи денег с почтовыми ящиками

Attackers call victims, posing as bank or law enforcement officials, and convince them to put cash in a mailbox

VTB has discovered a new fraudulent scheme. Criminals convince victims to leave their savings in mailboxes, supposedly for their "protection". This was reported by the bank's press service.

VTB specialists have identified a new fraud scheme in which criminals force victims to leave their savings in mailboxes under the pretext of "protecting savings". Attackers call clients, posing as bank or law enforcement officials, convince them of the threat of theft of funds from accounts and the need to urgently "save" the money.

The attackers ask the victim to put cash in their own mailbox. They specify a specific address with an apartment number. After a while, an accomplice-courier opens the box and steals the money.

This is a new variation of the classic "safe storage" scheme. Criminals have learned to circumvent even the vigilance of those who do not agree to transfer money to unknown persons. It is important to remember that your money can only be safely stored in the account that you physically opened at your servicing bank.
Dmitry Revyakin, Vice President of VTB

VTB warns: do not follow the instructions of strangers who supposedly help save money. "Remember, banks and law enforcement agencies never ask you to transfer money, especially cash, to secure it," the bank stressed.
