In military circles, there is an opinion that further modernization and repair of the aircraft carrier \"Admiral Kuznetsov\" of Project 1143.5 are impractical. This was reported by Ilya Kramnik, an employee of the Center for Strategic Planning Studies at IMEMO RAS.
According to him, \"Kuznetsov\" is a rather old ship, having served in not the best years for the domestic fleet, which did not add to its \"youth.\"
The expert drew attention to the fact that the aircraft carrier has a rather ancient design and not the most reliable power plant, judging by the experience of operation.
The ship has been on the water since 1985, in 10 years it will be 50. Even if it lasts until 2040, it won't be long. Therefore, taking into account the experience gained during the operation of \"Admiral Kuznetsov,\" we need to build another ship. We can do it, we have shipyards that allow us to build ships of this size.
At the same time, Kramnik emphasized that aircraft carriers are necessary for the Russian fleet, since a modern fleet is unthinkable without air support, and the absence of aircraft-carrying ships means that everything is reduced to the support of coastal aviation.
