The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) has created the first power plant in Russia that runs on solid oxide fuel cells. It generates electricity by electrochemical conversion of natural gas.
The installation does not have a fuel combustion process, so it is more environmentally friendly and efficient. The methane entering the installation is converted into synthesis gas and automatically purified from impurities, from which electricity is generated.
Thanks to the principle of operation, the efficiency of the power plant is more than 50%, which is significantly more than all existing plants for small-scale energy with a capacity of up to 1 MW.
