The keel-laying ceremony for the large landing ship (LLS) of the modernized Project 11711 "Sergey Kabanov" took place at the "Yantar" shipyard in Kaliningrad.
The "Sergey Kabanov" LLS is being built by Kaliningrad shipbuilders under an order from the Russian Ministry of Defense. The ship will join the Northern Fleet.
This will be the fifth Project 11711 LLS being built at the "Yantar" shipyard. Currently, the "Ivan Gren" and "Petr Morgunov" are part of the Russian Navy. The "Vasily Trushin" and "Vladimir Andreev" are being built in parallel.
This trio of LLSs is being created by shipbuilders according to the revised project of PJSC "Nevskoe Design Bureau".
The company expects that the series will continue up to 10 ships.
The Project 11711 LLS is designed to transport about 15 tanks or about 35 APCs/IFVs, or up to a battalion of marines. The ship is armed with AK-630 and AK-630M-2 artillery mounts. A Ka-27 search and rescue helicopter or a Ka-29 combat helicopter can be accommodated on the deck.
