Translation quality improved thanks to neural networks

Yandex continues to actively develop its services, adding the languages of the peoples of Russia to them. As part of a project that started about a year ago, Mordovian languages, as well as Ossetian, Komi and Tuvan, were introduced into Yandex Translate.

Users can now translate texts into 12 languages of the peoples of Russia, including Tatar, Bashkir, two Mari (Mari and Hill Mari), Udmurt, Chuvash and Yakut.

Using modern neural network technologies, Yandex significantly improves the quality of translation for these languages. In addition, the company is introducing speech synthesis and recognition technologies. They can be used by native speakers of Tatar, Chuvash and Bashkir languages.

The project is being implemented in cooperation with the House of Peoples of Russia and with the support of the Federal Agency for Nationalities Affairs. A special role in the introduction of the Mordovian languages was played by the Mordovian State University. N.P. Ogarev, which became the main partner in this endeavor.
