A regional state of emergency was declared in the Murmansk Region on July 1, 2025. The decree was signed by Governor Andrei Chibis in connection with the work to raise the floating dock PD-50, which sank in the fall of 2018 in the Kola Bay.

During the work, there is a risk of unforeseen situations that could lead to damage to the marine environment due to possible fuel leakage. The regional ministries, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, representatives of the Murmansk Sea Port, the Marine Rescue Service, and the Interregional Department of Rosprirodnadzor are involved in the emergency response. The Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region, Ksenia Zinatullina, has been appointed as the head of the work.

The captain of the Murmansk Sea Port issued an order to the regional government to raise the sunken PD-50 by mid-June 2025. The work must be completed by June 12, 2026.

FSUE "Rosmorport" will be the contractor for the preparation of ship-lifting documentation and the removal of the floating dock PD-50, and JSC "Lenmorniiproekt" is planned to be entrusted with the design work. Funding will be provided from the reserve fund of the Government of the Russian Federation.

PD-50 is one of the largest floating docks in the world and the only one of its kind in the European part of Russia. The dock is 330 m long and 67 m wide. This floating dock was built in Sweden in the late 1970s by order of the USSR. It is designed for repairing aircraft carriers.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that a new batch of sections for the floating dock "Captain Anatoly Ermolaev" under construction began to be shipped at the Vympel plant.
