Scientists from the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics (FSUE "RFNC-VNIIEF", a Rosatom enterprise) have developed a device for the rapid destruction of memory chips. The description of the patent for the invention is posted on the website of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent).
The invention is designed to protect information from unauthorized access by destroying the data carrier. The device is installed on the microchip and consists of a sealed housing with a pyrotechnic charge and an initiating element with current-carrying electrodes and a heating bridge. Applying an electrical signal to the electrodes heats the bridge, which ignites the charge. As a result, a large amount of gaseous combustion products are formed, which rupture the housing and destroy the microchip.
As indicated in the description, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme has been experimentally confirmed. When prototypes are triggered, the strong disruptive effect caused by the dynamic formation of a large amount of gaseous combustion products of the working charge completely destroys the 1623RT1T, 1623RT2A, 1636RR4U, and MT29F128G08AJAAAWP-IT:A memory chips. This guarantees the deletion of the information recorded on them. At the same time, the electronic unit itself, containing the information carrier, remains intact, as the zone of impact is limited to its size.
