The production of civil aviation equipment in the country in 2024 amounted to 166 airplanes and helicopters, which is 13% lower than the level of the previous year. The production of aviation equipment in Russia continues to decline throughout 2023-2024.
The Russian aircraft fleet largely consists of foreign equipment. This creates dependence on imported components. About 80% of airplanes and more than 10% of helicopters in the country are produced abroad.
Since February 2022, Russian air carriers have been prohibited from purchasing foreign aircraft and spare parts. Against the background of this decision, foreign leasing companies demanded the return of aircraft that were under operating lease. In response, the National Welfare Fund allocated 300 billion rubles to buy out aircraft by Russian airlines.
In 2022, the Russian government approved the Comprehensive Program for the Development of the Aviation Industry until 2030, which includes import substitution of components and the production of new models. According to the program, by 2030, the Russian aircraft fleet should be replenished with more than 1 thousand domestic airplanes, including 140 SSJ New aircraft and 270 MC-21-310 aircraft. But plans for the production of Russian aviation equipment may be revised downward due to imbalances in the volumes and types of airplanes, as well as the mismatch with commercial demand in the market.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the testing program for the import-substituted SJ-100 with PD-8 has been completed by only 50%.
