Igor Tonkovidov, General Director of the largest Russian shipping company Sovcomflot, said that two new vessels will be transferred from the Zvezda shipyard in the near future. According to him, the shipbuilders received two significant orders from Sovcomflot.
This is a series of three product carriers that run on liquefied natural gas, and a large order for 15 new generation Arctic gas carriers, which are designed to open navigation in the eastern sector of the Northern Sea Route and transport mainly liquefied natural gas.
According to him, the lead vessels of both series, a product carrier and a gas carrier, are undergoing testing. Tonkovidov added that the test results will determine the timing of the commissioning of the vessels. The top manager did not rule out that the vessels will begin to be operated in the second half of 2025.
Currently, the Zvezda shipyard has already delivered two Aframax-type oil tankers operating on LNG fuel to Sovcomflot. They were handed over in December 2022 and December 2023.
