On June 18, 2025, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025), MegaFon and the Government of the Novgorod Region signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of digitalization. The main directions of the project include expanding mobile coverage in small settlements, implementing forest fire monitoring systems, and modernizing digital services in housing and communal services, education, healthcare, and transport.
One of the key tasks will be connecting remote areas to high-speed internet. New base stations will appear in the Borovichi, Staraya Russa, and Novgorod districts this summer. This is a continuation of the operator's large-scale work: over the past five years, 370 km of fiber-optic lines have been laid in the region, and network refarming has been carried out, which has improved the quality of communication.
The result of today's agreement will be further modernization of the digital infrastructure: even more residents of the most remote areas and small settlements will have access to high-speed internet and high-quality voice communications.
Acting Governor Alexander Dronov added:
We strive to provide access to mobile communications and the internet to all residents: both rural and urban, regardless of their place of residence. Special attention is paid to improving security and public alert systems, and preventing traffic violations. The key goal of the agreement is to make life in the region even more comfortable, and the provision of services in electronic form convenient and fast.
Another important area is remote forest monitoring to prevent fires. MegaFon has been participating in this program since 2014, and now the technologies will become even more advanced. It is also planned to introduce digital solutions in the field of road safety and emergency public alert.
