Megafon, a communication operator, has completed extensive work to prepare its network for the summer season. Engineers updated the infrastructure in cottage and tourist areas of 36 regions of the country. This work led to an increase in data transfer rates by an average of 20%. This was reported in the company's press service.
Engineers not only modernized existing equipment, but also installed new base stations in popular tourist destinations. Among them are recreation centers near the Ruskeala mountain park, on the banks of the Volga in Konakovo, on the Listvyanka embankment on Lake Baikal, as well as on the Cheget highway in Elbrus and on the Curonian Spit in the Kaliningrad region.
In addition, updated stations are already operating in cities such as Vladivostok, Novorossiysk, Makhachkala, Sochi and Anapa. This has made communication more accessible to vacationers.
As a result of the work carried out, the speed of mobile Internet in the updated zones increased by 20%. In the Far East, the Urals and the North Caucasus the increase was 24%, in the Volga region and Central Russia - about 17%.
Such results were achieved not only due to the installation of new base stations. Engineers laid fiber-optic lines, carried out network refarming and introduced MIMO technology, which made it possible to transmit data over multiple channels simultaneously.
