Kazan Federal University (KFU) has won a grant from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to create an engineering center at the "Small-Tonnage Chemical Technologies" technopark. Funding of 250 million rubles will be directed to the development of scientific and production infrastructure, the purchase of equipment and the implementation of projects jointly with industrial partners.
The ministry's competition collected 228 applications, of which only 13 were supported. KFU's application scored 92 points out of 100, taking sixth place.
Grant support is designed for two years. In 2025, KFU will receive 150 million rubles, and in 2026 – 100.
The main areas of work of the center are heterogeneous catalysis, small-tonnage chemistry for the oil and gas industry, polymer materials and agrochemistry.
Several areas are planned to be developed on the basis of the park jointly with the Institute of Geology and Oil and Gas Technologies and the A. M. Butlerov Chemical Institute, the main ones being heterogeneous catalysis and small-tonnage chemistry for the oil and gas industry. In addition, projects related to the creation of polymer materials, superstructural plastics, agrochemistry (jointly with the Institute of Ecology, Biotechnology and Nature Management), and others will be implemented. The main part of the grant funds will be used to purchase equipment, including unique equipment, for the organization of pilot production.
Key partners are SIBUR, Gazprom Neft, Tatneft and other companies.
It is planned that at the initial stage the work will be focused mainly on the implementation of the developments of KFU scientists, and in the future we will attract third-party developers to jointly bring their products to a higher stage of technological readiness.
The KFU Technology Park was opened in February 2025, its task is to promote the introduction of scientific achievements into the production sphere.
