Internet on board Russian passenger planes may appear no earlier than 2027, according to Andrey Nikitin, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation.
According to him, the certification of new aviation technologies takes a long time due to strict requirements for safety and compatibility with onboard systems.
Earlier, the Minister of Digital Development, Maksut Shadaev, reported that the launch of satellites into a highly elliptical orbit will begin in 2026, which will become the technical basis for high-speed Internet on mobile objects. By 2027, it is planned to deploy a low-orbit constellation of 272 satellites.
Aeroflot and Russian Railways have already entered into a cooperation agreement with the aerospace company Bureau 1440, which is creating a satellite system. Passengers will be able to access the Internet on airplanes as early as 2027–2028.
