Russia has sufficient reserves of rare earth metals (REM). This was stated by the head of Rosnedra, Oleg Kazanov.
Geological exploration for rare earth metals is exactly what they do not need. We have 28.5 million tons of REM with an annual consumption of 2.5 thousand tons. It is more important to develop primary processing technologies and launch separation capacities.
In April, Rosnedra reported that for the successful development of the rare earth metal industry in Russia, it is necessary to create a number of large enterprises. It is required to organize the production of metal separation into individual oxides, establish the production of domestic reagents, and develop highly specialized high-tech equipment and structural materials.
Kazanov also noted that over the past decade, global consumption of rare earth metals has increased from 100 thousand tons to 300 thousand tons per year.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Rosneft gained control over the largest rare earth metal deposit in Russia.
