A new law may appear in Russia allowing the confiscation of cryptocurrency mined on illegal mining farms. The initiative is being developed by Anton Gorelkin, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy. The reason for this was the recent arrests of two such farms in the Irkutsk region, which created overloads in the region's power system.
This story once again proves the need to adopt special measures of responsibility so that law enforcement officers can not only accuse "black miners" of fraud, but also confiscate illegally mined cryptocurrency. The corresponding bill is still being prepared for submission to the State Duma, and I believe that it should be considered as soon as possible.
Gorelkin noted in his Telegram channel that the current measures are not enough: the ban on mining in certain regions "hits legal operators", and "black miners" continue to operate.
It has been said more than once that the main load on the power system is created by illegal crypto farms, and the existing mechanisms for banning mining in certain territories do little to help in the fight against them: these restrictions primarily hit "white miners".
The new bill should give law enforcement agencies the tools not only to bring to justice, but also to seize illegally obtained digital assets.
