A new logistics base (MTO) for the Russian Black Sea Fleet will be built in Abkhazia. The construction of the facility in the Ochamchira district has already been agreed upon, according to the Foreign Minister of the republic, Oleg Bartsits.
According to him, Abkhazia is interested in taking new security measures jointly with Russia, one of which is the creation of a new MTO point for the Black Sea Fleet. He has already discussed this issue with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.
This base will become an additional factor in strengthening security standards in the Eastern Black Sea region.
Russia's plans to build a new naval base in Abkhazia became known back in 2023. However, there will be no full-fledged naval base of the Black Sea Fleet here; the parties decided to create a logistics support point. Construction is ongoing, and there is no information on the opening dates yet.
