Modernized Communication Arrives at Russia's Largest Scientific Center

MegaFon Upgrades Network at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Providing Speeds Up to 195 Mbps

MegaFon has completed the modernization of its mobile network in Dubna, Moscow region, where the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) is located. Now, scientists, staff, and guests of the institute can enjoy internet speeds of up to 195 Mbps. This was made possible through the use of multiple frequency bands, including 2G for stable voice communication and 4G. Thanks to the use of MIMO 2×2 technology in the new telecommunications equipment, it has become possible to process a larger number of simultaneous connections, ensuring stable communication quality even under high load. The modernization of MegaFon's infrastructure has not only increased data transfer speeds but also improved the quality of voice calls thanks to VoLTE.

JINR is one of Russia's key scientific centers, conducting research in nuclear physics, nanotechnology, and biomedicine. More than 5,000 specialists work in seven laboratories equipped with unique equipment, including a superconducting particle accelerator. They need stable communication for comfortable work, especially when processing large data and participating in international collaborations.

The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is a flagship of Russian science, using modern technologies to conduct unique research. That is why we have implemented our reliable solutions, providing high-quality and fast communication, which will become an assistant for scientists and everyone who works at the intersection of the future and the present.
Viktor Yugai, MegaFon Director for Moscow and the Moscow Region

The institute, founded by 11 states in 1956, is actively developing innovative projects in the field of nuclear physics, nanotechnology, and biomedical research. The city of Dubna, which received the status of a science city, has become a center of experimental scientific infrastructure. It houses Russia's only superconducting accelerator of protons and heavy ions, a unique neutron pulsed reactor, as well as computing systems integrated into global computer networks.
