МАЗ на «батарейках»: белорусский автопроизводитель показал электрические грузовики и обновлённые автобусы на COMVEX-2025

JSC "Minsk Automobile Plant" Demonstrates Eco-Friendly Innovations for the Urban Environment

At the COMVEX-2025 commercial vehicle exhibition, Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) presented a number of innovative developments, including the MAZ GTe electric garbage truck and restyled trucks running on liquefied natural gas.

One of the key models at the exhibition was the MAZ GTe electric garbage truck with a 6×2-2 wheel arrangement, equipped with a steering axle to reduce axial loads. The body volume is 20 cubic meters, and the carrying capacity is 10 tons. As Vladimir Yanushko, Deputy General Director of JSC "MAZ," noted:

Yes, this is a fundamentally new development, distinguished by its exotic 6×2-2 wheel arrangement.

The in-house designed cab with a low floor and high roof provides comfort for operators who have to repeatedly leave the cab to work with containers. The electric drive with a 256 kWh battery guarantees a range of about 200 km, which is sufficient for operation in urban conditions and delivery of waste to the landfill.

Now, courtyard areas are like wells where every sound is heard. Therefore, municipal equipment, including garbage trucks, should be silent: arrive, load, leave — minimal discomfort for local residents!
Vladimir Yanushko, Deputy General Director of JSC "Minsk Automobile Plant"

Serial production of the MAZ GTe will begin in 2026. The cost of the electric garbage truck is a third higher than its diesel counterpart, but the use of Chinese batteries makes it competitive, according to Vladimir Yanushko. The use of more affordable batteries in the future may further reduce the price.

At the same time, the cost of the vehicle is by no means prohibitive. The electric truck will cost approximately one-third more than its diesel counterpart, provided that Chinese battery cells are purchased. If we find more affordable cell options, the price will be lower. But it is already quite competitive!

MAZ also presented an updated liquefied natural gas (LNG) tractor unit for the transportation of dangerous goods. The vehicle received a modern cab design, a robotic gearbox, and a hypoid axle, which reduces fuel consumption. Disc brakes provide a shorter braking distance, increasing safety. Cryogenic tanks with a volume of 930 liters allow for a range of up to 1400 km on a single refueling.

The tanks were developed according to the technical requirements of the Minsk Automobile Plant designers: we have several know-hows.

The company is also preparing for the serial production of third-generation buses running on compressed and liquefied natural gas. Among the new products are the MAZ-271 apron bus for airports in diesel and electric versions, as well as the MAZ-350 tourist bus with a capacity of 61+2 passengers. MAZ trolleybuses are in demand in Kazan and Minsk, and assembly kits are supplied to the Russian UTTZ for assembly with a local electric drive.
