Lightweight and Durable: K12 "Penguin" Catamarans Made of Composite Materials to be Built in Moscow

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping Approves Preliminary Design of Passenger Vessel

Specialists from the Moscow-based design bureau "AN Marine Consulting" have developed a preliminary design for the K12 "Penguin" passenger catamaran. The modular fiberglass construction has been approved by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

The size of the catamaran's elements allows for transportation in standard 40-foot containers and rapid assembly in the operating area.

The K12 "Penguin" is equipped with a bow ramp for disembarking passengers onto an undeveloped shore. The use of outboard motors allows for their repair separately from the vessel's hull. In addition, the developers have provided for a modification of the catamaran with an electric propulsion system.

Project Manager Valery Rozumenko stated that composites have a number of advantages: the absence of corrosion wear, high strength, and low weight. In these characteristics, they surpass steel and aluminum. The choice in favor of composite shipbuilding will help to update the fleet of small vessels in Russia.
