«Сим-сим, откройся!»: Специалисты ТюмГУ разработали биометрическую систему входа в операционную систему компьютера

New development from Tyumen State University enhances security through multi-factor authentication using voice and appearance

Specialists from the School of Computer Sciences at Tyumen State University (TSU) have presented software for multi-factor authentication in Linux systems. The solution combines voice and facial recognition, significantly increasing data protection compared to traditional passwords.

The developed system uses two biometric factors to confirm the user's identity: voice analysis and facial recognition via video camera. As Andrey Shabalin, Associate Professor at the Department of Information Security at TSU, explained, this combination reduces the risk of unauthorized access, as it is more difficult for an attacker to fake both voice and appearance simultaneously.

The implementation of multi-factor authentication based on user biometric data is necessary to increase the security level of computer systems. Traditional methods, such as password authentication, are not always capable of providing the required level of protection for user accounts and data.

The software is currently being tested on Debian-like systems, and in the future, it is planned to integrate it with a voice assistant created at TSU earlier. This will allow network administrators to control equipment by voice without sacrificing security.

Our solution uses the proposed mechanisms with the aim of integrating them into operating systems based on the Linux kernel.

The project aims not only to enhance protection but also to develop open-source solutions for Linux. The research results have already been published in the proceedings of the IEEE SmartIndustryCon conference.
