Restoration work on a MiG-21 aircraft has begun at the Vympel shipbuilding plant (USC). It will become a new landmark in Rybinsk.
The head of the city, Dmitry Rudakov, requested the repair work from the general director, Alexander Yeshchenko. The fighter was delivered from Tver.
Workers are cleaning the fuselage, replacing damaged parts, and manufacturing new fasteners for the wings. After installing mock-ups simulating weapons, we will carry out painting.
The Vympel plant will also create a pedestal for the aircraft, which will visually look as if it is preparing for takeoff. Preparation of the installation site for the MiG-21 will begin in the near future. It will be located in the green zone between Gagarin Street and General Batov Avenue, opposite the Cosmos cinema.
The installation of the MiG-21 will take place in three stages. The aircraft will be installed by mid-June, then architectural lighting will be installed, and next year the square around it will be landscaped.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that in Russia, they started work on creating the first supersonic aircraft in the history of domestic civil aviation.
