The Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant (KMZ) military-industrial holding has mastered the production of the CZ type Turbo C13 turbocharger. This device is designed for diesel engines, including modifications of YaMZ-534 (53423, 53443, 53445), and can be used in units with a capacity of up to 170 kW.
The order for the development came from the Agency for Technological Development, which initiated a competitive selection for a grant after an appeal from the Yaroslavl Motor Plant.
Reverse engineering is when a specific part (model) is taken as a basis, which needs to be repeated. This policy has been pursued since 2022, and is due to the fact that many foreign manufacturers have left the market.
According to Artem Marshinin, Marketing Director of KMZ, the import substitution process took a year and a half - from receiving the sample to completing acceptance tests.
When the original product was received, the designers disassembled it, took all the dimensions using 3D scanning, and created a 3D model. There were minor difficulties with the so-called cassette inside the turbocharger volute, but we eventually solved them.
The plant created a special stand for non-motorized testing of the turbocharger. Tests were carried out on it with the supply of compressed air. During the tests, pressure and number of revolutions were recorded. After that, the product was installed on the working engines of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant. It worked for about 500 hours in various modes.
