Online Information and a "Panic Button": Ministry of Digital Affairs to Release App to Protect Against Cyber Fraudsters

Pilot project to appear before the end of the year

In June, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of Russia will begin developing a mobile application to protect against cyber fraud. It will warn users about upcoming fraud attempts and include a "panic button" to call for help. This was announced by Deputy Minister Alexander Shoitov.

A mobile application for citizens. Two main tasks, I guess, are online informing citizens that a fraudulent action may be carried out against them right now. And the second is a panic button that a citizen can press if they believe that some unusual events are happening to them. In any case of fraud, they can apply here.
Alexander Shoitov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs

The launch of the pilot project is scheduled for the end of this year. Next year, the ministry plans to begin full-scale implementation. Shoitov noted that at the beginning of next year, the program will be certified and the system will be put into operation in accordance with the federal law of March 1. It will become a state information system.

Earlier, the Bank of Russia conducted an annual survey and revealed who is most often subjected to cyber fraud. In 2024, every third respondent faced various types of financial fraud, and 9% of them lost money.
