The Kalashnikov Group (part of Rostec) is working with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on the supply of small-sized AM-17 assault rifles in 5.45×39 mm caliber to the army. This was reported by ANNA News.
The main feature of the product is the widespread use of high-strength polymer materials, including in the design of the receiver. Thanks to this approach, engineers were able to use components that meet modern requirements for small arms, while remaining within the mass and size characteristics of the analogue.
The AM-17 features a two-way fire mode selector, a folding telescopic stock, a two-way fire mode selector, a Picatinny rail rigidly connected to the barrel, and a cocking handle that can be installed on either the right or left side.
Structurally, the assault rifle consists of a receiver with a buttstock and barrel, a forend, and a trigger box. The receiver houses the return mechanism, the locking assembly, and the bolt carrier with the bolt.
The trigger box includes a magazine well and a control handle, and houses the trigger mechanism. The receiver and trigger boxes are connected to each other by transverse latches that are removed when disassembling the assault rifle.
Main characteristics:
- Applicable cartridge - 5.45x39;
- Magazine capacity - 30 rounds;
- Rate of fire - 850±50 rounds/min;
