The "Romanov" company (a subsidiary of the defense concern "Almaz-Antey") signed a special investment contract (SPIC) with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and the authorities of St. Petersburg on May 7. The contract aims to organize the serial production of civilian cargo-dimensional chassis with increased cross-country ability under the BAZ brand.
Already at this stage, BAZ chassis and trucks do not depend on foreign technologies, developers, and suppliers. The new model line was created as a result of the diversification of technologies used in military equipment, which ensures a high level of localization, which will increase as the special investment contract is implemented.
Production will be set up at a site in the "Shushary" industrial zone, where European MAN and Scania trucks were assembled until 2022. BAZ trucks are developed on their own modular platform with a 6x6 wheel arrangement. This allows creating various models (semi-trailer tractors, dump trucks, and flatbed trucks) with wheel arrangements of 4x4, 6x6, 8x8, and 10x10 and a total weight of 24 to 60 tons.
The first BAZ car was assembled in Shushary in February of this year. The company plans to produce 200 trucks by the end of 2025. In three years, production will increase to 2,000 vehicles.
Earlier,www1.ru reported that sales of the "Valdai 18" truckstarted in Russia.
