The Cabinet continues to improve legislation in the fight against fraudsters. New bills will allow law enforcement agencies to block funds in citizens' accounts without a court decision. The innovation is aimed at combating cybercrime and theft. The blocking will be valid for no more than ten days and only for the amount that was stolen.
According to the explanatory note to the bill, the number of crimes in the digital sphere has quadrupled in the last six years. In 2024, more than 485 thousand cases of remote theft were registered. The damage amounts to over 197.5 billion rubles. Experts emphasize that speed is key to successfully combating fraudsters.
The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, believes that the existing procedures do not allow for a quick response to cyberattacks. The new measures will help law enforcement agencies to be more efficient.
