The Ministry of Transport has drawn the attention of airlines to the importance of complying with the rules for providing passengers with food and accommodation due to flight delays at airports. This was reported by the press service of the ministry.
Deputy Head of the Ministry of Transport Vladimir Poteshkin stated at a meeting of the coordination headquarters to the heads of airlines about the need to strictly comply with federal aviation regulations. These rules regulate the implementation of air transportation, including during the May holidays.
The Ministry of Transport recalled that in the event of a flight delay, the airline is obliged to provide passengers with children under seven years of age access to the mother and child room. Two telephone calls or two e-mail messages must also be organized if the flight is delayed by more than two hours.
If the departure is delayed by more than two hours, passengers should be offered soft drinks. Hot meals are provided if the delay exceeds four hours. During the daytime, hot meals should be provided every six hours, and at night - every eight hours.
The company must provide free accommodation in a hotel when waiting for a flight for more than eight hours during the day and more than six hours at night. It is also necessary to organize a transfer to and from the hotel. In addition, the company is obliged to ensure the storage of passengers' luggage.
The Ministry emphasized that disputed situations should be resolved in favor of passengers. Prolonged stay of people on board during restrictions is unacceptable.
In some Russian airports, including those in the capital, temporary restrictions were introduced on the arrival and departure of aircraft on May 6 and 7. In this regard, a number of airlines were forced to cancel, combine or postpone their flights.
Earlier, Aeroflot increased the cost of returning and exchanging tickets purchased from April 28, 2025. To return or exchange a ticket for a domestic flight, you will have to pay 3.5 thousand rubles - 25% more than before. For an international flight, 55 euros will be charged, which is 20% more than the previous amount.
