The newest bulk carriers "Mikhail Yegorov" and "Meliton Kantaria" were laid down at "Zvezda" in Primorye

The ships were named in honor of the famous Soviet intelligence officers

The Zvezda shipbuilding complex in Primorsky Krai held a ceremony for the keel-laying of two bulk carriers. In honor of the anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, they were named "Mikhail Yegorov" and "Meliton Kantaria" - Heroes of the Soviet Union.

The bulk carriers are designed for the transportation of bulk cargo. Cutting of parts for the two ships started in February of this year.

"Mikhail Yegorov" and "Meliton Kantaria" will be the first in a series of five coal carriers being built at the Zvezda shipyard. The length of the bulk carrier is 229 m, width is 34.5 m, deadweight is about 86,400 tons. The power of the main engine is more than 6.8 thousand kW.

The construction of ships at the Zvezda shipyard contributes to increasing the efficiency of coal transportation through the use of water transport.

Mikhail Yegorov and Meliton Kantaria are scouts of the 756th Rifle Regiment of the 150th Rifle Division of the 3rd Shock Army of the 1st Belorussian Front. On May 1, 1945, they hoisted the Red Banner of the Military Council of the 3rd Shock Army over the Reichstag, which became the Banner of Victory. For this feat, the scouts were awarded the title of Heroes of the Soviet Union.
