The new AvtoVAZ Lada Iskra uses a CVT or a six-speed manual transmission from Chinese suppliers. AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov explained why this is happening.
According to him, the choice of a Chinese supplier instead of, for example, the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant (ZMZ) or Yaroslavl (YaMZ) is due to the production volumes and product quality that suit AvtoVAZ.
Sokolov assured that as soon as the quality and volumes of stable production and the aggregates that AvtoVAZ needs from a Russian manufacturer allow them to be put on the assembly line, this will be done immediately.
The price, strangely enough, is not a decisive factor in this case. Although now is such a moment when you need to, so to speak, tighten up everywhere. But, nevertheless, as soon as our suppliers offer us any component locally as part of units, assemblies, paints, and so on, we will gladly accept it.
Earlier, AvtoVAZ admitted that the new Lada Iskra is a former Renault Logan with a huge number of changes. Some cars of the model have traveled more than 100 thousand km.
The official start of sales of the Lada Iskra model is scheduled for July 20, 2025 — on the day of the AvtoVAZ anniversary celebration.
