The third serial universal nuclear icebreaker of Project 22220 "Yakutia", built at the Baltic Shipyard of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), set off on its first working voyage on April 15.
The vessel is heading towards the Yenisei district of the Kara Sea, where the icebreaker's crew will provide vessel escort services.
"Yakutia" is the fourth vessel and the third serial vessel, built by USC under Project 22220 commissioned by FSUE Atomflot.
LK-60Ya type icebreakers of Project 22220 are a series of Russian universal nuclear icebreakers for operation in the Arctic Ocean. The index LK-60Ya stands for "icebreaker with a nuclear power plant with a capacity of 60 megawatts." They are designed for conducting expeditions in the Arctic and servicing the Northern Sea Route.
