Specialists from the Vympel Design Bureau have developed a conceptual project for a new river ferry, project 00640. The project aims to address the problem of the critical wear of the existing ferry river fleet operating on the inland waterways of Russia, most of which are over 50 years old.
Ferry 00640 is designed on the principle of a "modular platform." This allows it to be adapted to the specific needs of the customer. To reduce costs with low passenger traffic, it is possible to build a cheaper version of the vessel without a passenger cabin. To improve consumer qualities, it is possible to install an air conditioning system, vending equipment, and other options.
The new ferry combines simplicity of design, low construction cost, and ease of operation. In the basic version, the vessel is equipped with a diesel-mechanical power plant, which is easy to maintain and repair. The project also provides for the possibility of creating a version with electric propulsion on rechargeable batteries for inner-city and suburban crossings.
Electric motors will be powered by rechargeable batteries, which are recharged from berthing facilities during loading and unloading. This solution will eliminate harmful emissions within the city and reduce energy consumption.
