Handheld laser-beam combat systems of the "Posokh" line have been developed for the Russian military. Analyst Evgeny Damantsev revealed the characteristics of the product.
According to him, with an estimated power of up to 1.5 - 3 kW, such a product will be able to damage a number of structural components of small drones under favorable meteorological conditions and adequate meteorological visibility range.
Meanwhile, to heat individual structural elements of drones to 600 - 700 degrees, stable retention of the laser beam on the priority area of the intercepted drone for several seconds will be required.
How easy it is for an operator to implement this manually, without turret installations with two-plane stabilization, is not yet entirely clear.
The analyst noted that even in this manual configuration, "Posokh" will be able to disable multispectral optoelectronic modules of UAVs, damaging infrared MWIR- / LWIR-matrices, as well as CMOS- / CCD-matrices at a distance of more than 1-1.5 km.
The developing company stated that the speed of impact of "Posokh" on the object is equal to the speed of light.
