Scammers target foreign messengers

More than 90% of fraud cases are related to the use of foreign communication platforms

In Russia, more than 90% of fraudulent activities are carried out through foreign messengers. This was announced by the Minister of Digital Development Maksut Shadaev at the plenary session of the State Duma.

According to him, attackers often impersonate employees of government agencies, banks, digital services and telecom operators. Such actions create serious risks for citizens who may become victims of fraud.

Amendments to the draft law on countering cyber fraud are being discussed in the State Duma in the second reading. Shadaev said that one of the key norms of the draft law is a ban on the use of foreign messengers for employees of state bodies, special services and digital platform operators. We are talking about messengers and instant messaging services, which are sometimes integrated into websites.
