The first Belarusian electric car project may not be implemented. The cost of components produced in the republic is still quite high. This was stated by one of the developers of the Belarusian electric vehicle, Deputy Director of the United Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Alexander Belevich. He believes that this is a key aspect that currently prevents the start of mass production of the new product.
The cost of components produced in Belarus is still too high.
For members of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, this is not the first attempt to develop electric vehicles using components produced in the country. Eight years ago, scientists already presented the first prototype based on the Geely Emgrand sedan, on which innovative technologies were tested.
Currently, we are faced with a more difficult task - to create an electric vehicle that can be mass-produced. Leading enterprises of the Republic of Belarus are participating in this project. The Mogilevliftmash plant is engaged in the production of electric motors. Izmeritel is responsible for power electronics, and the First Battery Company supplies batteries.
To date, five prototypes have already been created, which must pass all the necessary tests. According to the scientist, 70% of the components in electric vehicles are of domestic production. The developers are striving to make the car affordable at a price not exceeding 30 thousand dollars (2.5 million rubles).
The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus reports that mass production of electric vehicles based on the Belgee X50 model may begin no earlier than 2026. Currently, the model is known as the EX50. It is equipped with a 65 kW battery and a 163 hp electric motor. The drive, like the original Geely model, is front-wheel drive.
According to researchers, the range is about 400 kilometers, and the maximum speed is 130 kilometers per hour. The charging port complies with the Chinese GB/T standard, but the production model will most likely use a different connector that is more suitable for Russian conditions.
The Belgee EX50 was first introduced in the spring of 2024. Its appearance did not differ from the Belgee X50 crossover.
