Глава Минцифры Максут Шадаев объяснил, почему спутниковый интернет в поездах не появится в этом году

Russian Railways does not have the necessary funds to implement the project

Internet on Russian railways will become available only after the introduction of satellite internet. This was stated by the Minister of Digital Development of the Russian Federation Maksut Shadayev at a meeting in the State Duma.

According to him, the implementation of the project requires time and resources, and the railway infrastructure has its own characteristics that complicate the introduction of access to satellite communications. In addition, Russian Railways does not have the necessary funds to implement the project.

This problem will be solved only with the development of fast, cheap satellite internet, that is, in 2026–2027.
Maksut Shadayev, Head of the Ministry of Digital Development

The launch of the first four satellites to provide internet to moving objects is planned for 2026, and from 2027, similar services will be provided by a low-orbit satellite constellation.

According to Shadayev, three test satellites were already launched into low orbits last year.

We already have 6 test vehicles functioning in orbit. This is 80 percent of the target functionality.
Maksut Shadayev, Head of the Ministry of Digital Development

He said that four new satellites are being built to provide internet access in the Arctic, and two to replace outdated vehicles in geostationary orbits.
