The market for used and new cars in Russia is seeing a decrease in prices for models manufactured in 2023–2024.
According to auto expert Igor Morzharetto, this is due to an imbalance between purchase volumes and actual sales. The main reason is an oversupply of Chinese cars imported before the price increase in 2023. He estimates that there are about 300–400 thousand unsold cars in warehouses. This was compounded by the overproduction of AvtoVAZ, which produced more cars than it could sell.
Discounts on unpopular models reach 100–300 thousand rubles, while price reductions are minimal for popular offers. Experts predict that the market will continue to fall — by the end of the year, sales volumes may decrease by 10–20% compared to 2023.
The situation is aggravated by general economic instability and a decrease in the purchasing power of the population. Analysts recommend that buyers carefully monitor price trends, especially for models with a high balance in warehouses, where discounts may become even more significant in the coming months.
