Auto market experts predict that used cars costing up to 1 million rubles will be the most in demand in Russia in the spring of 2025. This trend is associated with the expected decline in sales of new cars, TASS reports.
The new car market may shrink by 40% compared to the same period in 2024. At the same time, the used car segment, on the contrary, will remain stable due to predictable pricing and the absence of "overheating" of demand.
Used cars are less susceptible to sharp fluctuations in value, which makes them attractive to buyers in an environment of economic uncertainty. Significant changes are possible only in the event of a long-term reduction in the key rate by the Bank of Russia, which is able to stimulate the growth of credit activity.
Forecasts for new cars look less optimistic. Their share in total sales will continue to decline more than that of used cars. Analysts expect that average monthly sales of new cars in the spring of 2025 will not exceed 100 thousand units, while in 2024 this figure was about 135 thousand.
The dynamics of demand for used cars will mirror the situation in the new segment, but with a smaller amplitude of fluctuations. The main driver is affordability: cars up to 1 million rubles remain the best choice for most Russians, especially in the regions.
Experts agree that the stability of this segment makes it key to the market in the context of ongoing economic turbulence.
