The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) deploy the Il-76MD aircraft when necessary to combat fires. Footage has emerged online showing the operation of the unique aircraft liquid dispensing system (VAP-2).
Two tanks with a total volume of 44 cubic meters are loaded onto the aircraft. The full refueling time with fire extinguishing liquid is 15 minutes. The discharge takes 6-7 seconds at an aircraft speed of 240 - 400 km/h.
The Il-76 is the first Soviet transport aircraft with turbojet engines. It made its first flight in 1971, and deliveries began in 1974.
A fully sealed fuselage, a high-mounted wing of moderate sweep with strong mechanization, and a T-shaped tail are distinctive features of the aircraft.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Su-30SM2 fighters and Su-24M bombers practiced strikes against warships in the Baltic Sea.
