Advanced Su-35S fighters spotted in Algerian skies: country bought 14 aircraft from Russia

Footage of Russian Su-35S generation "4++" fighters flying in the skies of Algeria has appeared online. The combat aircraft were apparently heading to their deployment location in the republic.

In total, according to information from open sources, Algeria purchased 14 such fighters from Russia.

Su-35 (NATO codification: Flanker-E+) is a Russian multirole supermaneuverable fighter with thrust vectoring. In the Russian Aerospace Forces, it bears the index Su-35S.

The Su-35 has the ability to use the entire range of existing and future air-to-air and air-to-surface aviation weapons, including high-precision ones.

The main armament of the Su-35S is a 30-millimeter GSh-30-1 aircraft cannon, short, medium and long-range air-to-air missiles, Kh-59M, Kh-31 and Kh-35U anti-ship missiles, various types of unguided and high-precision ammunition.

Main characteristics of the Su-35C:

  • Maximum take-off weight — 34 500 kg
  • Maximum payload weight — 8 000 kg
  • Service ceiling — 18 000 m
  • Number of hardpoints — 12 with the possibility of placing 14 air-to-air missiles
