A new powerful flare has occurred on the Sun again. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The flare of level M1.1 lasted about three minutes.
71 days have passed since the beginning of 2025, and during this time 98 flares of various intensities have already been recorded on the Sun.
Solar flares are classified into five classes — A, B, C, M, and X — depending on the strength of their X-ray radiation. The weakest class, A0.0, has a power of 10 nanowatts per square meter at Earth, and each subsequent letter increases the power by a factor of 10. Flares are often accompanied by the release of plasma, which, reaching Earth, can cause magnetic storms, affecting the operation of satellites and power grids.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a flare of the penultimate power class occurred on the Sun on Monday morning.
