The "Gonets Satellite System" company, part of "Roscosmos", has created a modem designed to transmit data from orbit to an unmanned aerial vehicle. According to the general director of the company, Andrey Manoylo, the modem has already passed all the necessary tests and certifications. Mass production is scheduled to launch in the near future.
In standby mode, the device consumes ten times less energy than previous modems.
Today, the new modem is the most miniature of the Russian satellite communication subscriber devices. Its dimensions are only 52x62x10 mm, which is slightly larger than a matchbox.
According to experts, the use of satellite channels on UAVs significantly expands the control zone over drones, and also makes hybrid control possible.
The satellite channel can also be used to transmit the payload installed on the drone, which has great economic potential for a number of industries.
Earlier, the "Geoscan" company presented the "Pioneer Mini 2" quadcopter — the first Russian development for STEAM education. This drone is equipped with a processor with a neural accelerator and a high-resolution camera, which is mounted on a servo suspension. The quadcopter is designed to teach schoolchildren and students modern technologies.
