ITMO specialists have developed an innovative local navigation system for drones — "Vostok". This system determines the speed and location of drones with high accuracy, significantly exceeding the capabilities of GPS and GLONASS.
The "Vostok" system uses two LEDs that act as megaphones. They emit modulated signals at different frequencies and transmit them to the drone's photodetectors. "Vostok" does not require a video camera, radar, or lidars.
Photodetectors receive signals, and a special module amplifies and processes them, calculates the drone's coordinates, and transmits the data to the onboard computer directly on board. In real time, we see the exact location of the drone, as well as changes in the height and angles of inclination of the sides.
The system can calculate coordinates with an accuracy of up to 4 mm several thousand times per second and track speed with an accuracy of up to 2 cm/s. This allows UAVs to perform complex tasks, such as landing on a moving object in dense fog.
The "Vostok" system is intended to be used for automatic landing of unmanned helicopters on icebreaker decks or automation of routes for unmanned mining dump trucks. In the future, the developers plan to test the system in large sports halls and configure it for positioning drones relative to each other. It can be used in conditions where traditional satellite navigation systems do not work, for example, in dense urban areas, tunnels, or enclosed spaces.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the ERA-GLONASS system will be sent to fight illegal drones.
