The BUKH1a counter-battery system has been repeatedly modernized, and the military is currently using the fifth version of the product. The complex operates from the rear zone.
The acoustic reconnaissance system has become a budget analogue of the 1B75 "Penicillin" artillery reconnaissance system.
The principle of operation of the BUKH1a is based on receiving and processing acoustic waves from shots and explosions to determine the location of enemy guns. The range of the complex varies depending on the gun and ranges from 1 to 25 km.
