Передовая технология интеграции радара и системы связи появится в России

The system will allow tracking UAVs and monitoring the environment

Russian scientists are working on a technology to integrate radar and a communication system that can turn base stations into radars. The complex will open up the possibility of tracking drones, monitoring the environment and weather, as well as recognizing human gestures, the press service of the National Technological Initiative (NTI) reported.

The system will turn base stations and other wireless access points into radars while maintaining the main function — providing communication. This development promises a whole range of new services in the field of telecommunications, from UAV monitoring to human gesture recognition.

Another possible scenario is environmental monitoring, when cell towers with the radar function will be able to monitor the weather, pollution, insects, and more.

Scientists will invent new signals, algorithms, and methods that can perform joint sensing and communication — this will require time-frequency resources of antennas that are already available at base stations. This technology can be implemented without replacing equipment.
