On February 24, the European Union adopted the 16th package of economic sanctions against Russia. This is reported on the official website of the Council of the European Union.
Individual sanctions include 83 positions, concerning 48 individuals and 35 organizations. Sanctions also extend to third-country airlines cooperating with Russia.
The package (of sanctions against the Russian Federation - IF) extends the flight ban, allowing for the inclusion of third-country carriers that operate domestic flights within Russia or supply aviation goods to Russian airlines or for domestic flights in Russia. If these airlines are included in the list, they will be prohibited from flying to the EU
Special attention in the sanctions is given to the "shadow fleet." 74 new vessels have been added to the list of ships with a ban on entering ports. Now their number is 153 units.
The EU also imposed restrictions against 53 organizations related to the military-industrial complex of Russia. They will be subject to stricter sanctions on the export of dual-use goods and technologies that may contribute to the technological advancement of the Russian defense and security sectors.
The European Council also decided to extend the ban on the provision of financial services to 13 regional banks.
The list of goods whose supplies to Russia are restricted has been expanded. The list includes goods for the development and production of Russian military systems (chemical precursors, software for CNC machine tools, game consoles, and controllers for UAV control).
Additional restrictions have been introduced on the export of goods that contribute to strengthening Russia's industrial potential (chemicals, certain types of plastics and rubber), as well as their transit through Russia. Restrictions on the import of Russian aluminum have been tightened.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the USA introduced a new package of sanctions "to end the dependence" of the Russian military-industrial complex on the foreign IT sector.
