Digital currencies are impacting crime

The number of crimes related to cryptocurrency in Russia continues to rise. This was stated by the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Irina Podnosova, at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

With the spread of cryptocurrency in the economy, the number of crimes in which digital currency is a means of committing a crime, criminal income, or an object of encroachment is growing.

According to her, digital currency can be recognized as property in criminal proceedings. Podnosova added that the Supreme Court is working on such an initiative.

The Chairman of the Supreme Court also told President Vladimir Putin that the structure of convictions last year remained the same as before. Thus, 38% of crimes are committed against property, 24% against individuals, and 24% against public safety and order.
